A group of armed people entered and searched the offices of Russian Internet-service company in Minsk, the capital of Belarus, on Thursday, the fourth day of unrest sparked by the disputed reelection of President Alexander Lukashenko.
A spokesperson for the company, Yandex, told NBC News Thursday the armed people, who they have not identified, are in their offices. The company was "looking into the situation," he said, without providing further details.
Protests have roiled Minsk and other cities since Lukashenko, who has ruled the country for 26 years, won with allegedly 80 percent of the vote. The runner-up, opposition leader Svetlana Tsikhanouskaya, has now fled to Lithuania.
The opposition called the election rigged as soon as early exit polls reported Lukashenko's big lead Sunday. Since then, thousands of people across the country have taken to the streets in protest.
Security forces have clashed with some protesters, using tear gas, rubber bullets and stun grenades amid widespread internet and cell phone outages. The interior ministry said thousands of people have been detained, and dozens of protesters and police officers have been injured.
