It’s getting biblical down under.
Spiders are making a mass exodus amid widespread flooding in southeastern Australia.
Heavy rainfalls over the last week have forced thousands of people out of their homes in New South Wales, with hundreds more having to be rescued from rising waters, officials said Monday.
But people aren’t the only ones fleeing the floods – swarms of critters have also been trying to reach dry land, according to videos and photos posted on social media.
Melanie Williams, from the NSW town of Macksville, posted a clip on Facebook Saturday showing hundreds of arachnids crawling on her garage door.
“Sooooo many SPIDERS from the floods,” she wrote.
Another video, posted by TikTok user Shenea Varley over the weekend, showed spiders clinging to a fence as they struggled to escape floodwaters churning below.
“There were also skinks, ants, basically every insect, crickets ― all just trying to get away from the floodwaters,” Varley told the Guardian Australia after a visit to western Sydney.
“My husband videoed it, because I was not going close to it,” she added. “When he was standing still, he had spiders climbing up his legs.”
Kinchela Creek resident Matt Lovenfosse told CNN on Tuesday that rain was still falling and that the floodwaters were inching closer to his family’s home.
“In the morning it should be inside and the spiders will be all over the house,” he told the outlet, adding, “The trees are full of snakes.”
