Michigan reported two-day totals of 9,764 new COVID-19 cases and 137 new deaths for Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov. 2-3.

Among the newly reported deaths, 75 were late additions that likely occurred outside the reporting period but were discovered recently through a state health department review of death records.

Over the last week, the state has average 3,879 cases and 46 deaths per day, according to statewide data released Wednesday afternoon. That’s up from 3,415 cases and 41 deaths per day a week ago.

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 1,147,512 reported coronavirus cases and 22,384 confirmed deaths. Additionally, the state has reported 149,984 probable cases and 1,495 probable deaths, in which a physician and/or antigen test ruled it COVID-19 but no confirmatory PCR test, which detects the presence of a virus, was done.

State data shows 64.1% of eligible residents have received at least a single dose of COVID-19 vaccine. So far, 59.4% of the population is fully vaccinated.

As of Monday, hospitals statewide were treating 2,274 adult patients and 39 children with confirmed or suspected cases of COVID-19, including 577 patients in the ICU and 287 on ventilators. Last week there were 2,247 total COVID patients.

Of the 42,696 diagnostic tests processed Tuesday, Nov. 2, about 14.6% came back positive. Over the last week, the state average has been 12.6% -- up from 11.4% a week ago.

All 83 counties reported at least one new case of COVID-19 over the three-day period. Based on population, Keweenaw County led the way with 293.3 cases per 100,000 people, followed by Clare, Crawford, Schoolcraft, Iron, Baraga, Huron, Mason, Allegan and Muskegon.

As for total new cases, Wayne led the way with 1,440. Other top-reporting counties were Oakland with 977, Macomb with 765, Kent with 749, Ottawa with 418, Kalamazoo with 282, Muskegon with 278, Genesee with 277, Washtenaw with 262 and Saginaw with 235.

Fifty-three counties reported at least one new death, led by Wayne with 17, Macomb with 11 and Oakland with eight. Genesee and Jackson counties each reported seven new deaths, followed by Kalamazoo with six, and Gladwin, Hillsdale, Isabella, Midland and St. Clair counties with four each.

The chart below shows new cases for the past 30 days based on onset of symptoms. In this chart, numbers for the most recent days are incomplete because of the lag time between people getting sick and getting a confirmed coronavirus test result, which can take up to a week or more.
